Knots Needed for Advancement

As a scout follows the advancement trail, he needs to learn the following knots:

Scout Rank Requirements:

6. Demonstrate tying the square knot (a joining knot).

Tenderfoot Rank Requirements:

4a. Demonstrate how to whip and fuse the ends of a rope.

4b. Demonstrate that you know how to tie the following knots and tell what their uses are: two half hitches and the taut-line hitch.

Second Class Rank Requirements: No new knots are needed

First Class Rank Requirements:
